Washer Making Loud Noises in Redondo Beach

Redondo Beach's split personality creates two distinct washer noise problems depending on where you live. Down near King Harbor and the Esplanade, that constant salt air wreaks havoc on washer components — I've pulled corroded shock absorbers and rusted drum bearings from machines that are only five years old. The oceanfront condos and townhomes get hit hardest, especially units with washers in garages or utility rooms that aren't climate controlled. Meanwhile, up in North Redondo near Aviation Boulevard, the older ranch homes present a different challenge entirely.

Those North Redondo homes, many built in the 1960s and 70s, often have original concrete slabs that have settled unevenly over the decades. An unlevel washer is a noisy washer, and we see this constantly in the grid neighborhoods between Inglewood Avenue and the 405. The Riviera Village area falls somewhere in between — those renovated bungalows often have newer Samsung and LG front-loaders installed on second floors or in converted spaces, and without proper reinforcement, the floor vibration amplifies every bearing wobble and unbalanced load into a neighborhood-waking racket.
