Refrigerator Leaking Water in Monrovia

Here in Monrovia, we see refrigerator water leaks more frequently than in many other East LA communities, and there's a good reason why. The city's beautiful collection of 1920s Craftsman bungalows and Spanish Revival homes often have original or older plumbing that creates unique mineral buildup patterns in appliance water lines. When you combine this with Monrovia's hard water from the San Gabriel Valley aquifers, it creates the perfect storm for clogged defrost drains and mineral-encrusted water inlet valves.

The foothill location also plays a role in what we're seeing. Monrovia sits right at the base of the San Gabriels, where temperature swings between the cool mountain air and warm valley floor create more frequent defrost cycles in refrigerators. This constant freeze-thaw action puts extra stress on defrost drains and door gaskets. We've noticed this is particularly common in homes along the northern neighborhoods closer to Foothill Boulevard, where the elevation changes are most dramatic.
