Microwave Turntable Not Spinning in Hermosa Beach

Microwave turntable failures are surprisingly common in Hermosa Beach's compact living spaces, where countertop microwaves get heavy daily use in galley kitchens barely wide enough for two people. In the beach cottages and narrow townhomes near The Strand, we regularly see Samsung and LG microwaves with seized turntable motors — partly due to the relentless salt air that works its way into every appliance vent, but also because these smaller kitchens mean microwaves are doing double duty for everything from reheating last night's takeout to defrosting frozen meals for beach parties.

The tight quarters in most Hermosa Beach homes also mean microwaves often get shoved against walls or tucked under cabinets with minimal clearance, which restricts airflow and causes motors to overheat. Over on the Hermosa Valley side toward Prospect Avenue, where homes have slightly more kitchen real estate, we see fewer turntable issues with the higher-end Bosch and KitchenAid units that have better-sealed motor compartments. But even those aren't immune to the coastal environment's effects on moving parts.
