    What Error Code PF Means

Your Samsung washer displays PF when it loses electrical power in the middle of a cycle and then regains it. The control board stores the cycle stage in memory. When power returns, the board detects that a cycle was interrupted and displays PF to notify you. The washer does not automatically resume the interrupted cycle. You need to either restart the cycle or select a new one.

    Common Causes

    Momentary power outage

A brief interruption in your home's electrical supply causes the washer to lose power mid-cycle. Even a one-second outage triggers PF.

    Tripped circuit breaker

The washer shares a circuit with other high-draw appliances that trip the breaker. Hair dryers, space heaters, or other motors on the same circuit overload it.

    Loose wall outlet connection

The power plug does not fit tightly in the wall outlet. Vibration from the washer during spin loosens the connection and causes a momentary power loss.

    Damaged power cord

The washer's power cord has internal wire damage, a loose terminal, or a frayed section. This creates intermittent contact that breaks under vibration.

    Faulty noise filter

The noise filter (EMI filter) is an inline component on the power cord inside the washer. If it fails, it intermittently cuts power to the control board.

    How to Fix It

    1. 1

      Check for a power outage

Look at the clocks on your microwave, oven, and other appliances. If they are blinking or reset, your home experienced a power outage. This is not a washer problem. Press Power on the washer, select your cycle, and restart.

    2. 2

      Check the circuit breaker

Go to your electrical panel and find the breaker for the laundry room. If it is tripped (in the middle position), flip it fully off, then back on. Samsung washers should be on a dedicated 20-amp circuit. If the breaker trips repeatedly, call an electrician -- the circuit is overloaded or has a wiring fault.

    3. 3

      Test the wall outlet

Plug a lamp into the same outlet and confirm it stays on. Wiggle the plug gently. If the lamp flickers, the outlet has a loose internal connection and needs replacement by an electrician. Also check if the outlet is a GFCI type and press the Reset button.

    4. 4

      Inspect the power cord

Unplug the washer and examine the entire length of the power cord. Look for fraying, kinks, burn marks, or a loose fit at the plug prongs. Wiggle the cord at the point where it enters the washer. If the cord feels loose or shows damage, replace it.

Never use a damaged power cord. Replace it before running the washer again.

    5. 5

Check the noise filter (EMI filter)

Unplug the washer. Remove the top panel. The noise filter is a small plastic box connected to the power cord inside the cabinet, near the power entry point. It has two wire connectors. Inspect it for burn marks or cracks. Test continuity through the filter with a multimeter -- place probes on the input and output line terminals. No continuity means the filter is open and needs replacement.

The washer must be unplugged. The noise filter handles line voltage.

    6. 6

      Restart the cycle

After resolving the power issue, plug in the washer. Press Power, select the cycle you want, and press Start. The PF code clears automatically when a new cycle begins. If you want to resume the interrupted load, select the same cycle and water temperature.

    When to Call a Professional

A single PF code from a power outage is not a washer issue. Call a technician if PF recurs without any household power outage, if the power cord or noise filter is faulty, or if the breaker trips repeatedly when the washer runs. TruePro charges a $59 diagnostic fee that is credited toward the repair. All work is covered by a 90-day warranty on parts and labor. Same-day service is often available. Call 877-378-3111 for service in LA County, Orange County, or Ventura County.

    Samsung Washer PF β€” FAQ

Not necessarily. PF means the washer lost power mid-cycle. If your home had a power outage or the breaker tripped, the washer is fine. Just restart the cycle. PF only indicates a washer problem if it recurs with no external power interruption.

No. Samsung washers do not automatically resume interrupted cycles. You need to press Power, reselect your cycle and settings, and press Start. The water from the interrupted cycle is still in the tub, so the washer will drain it first.

Yes. Samsung recommends a dedicated 20-amp, 120-volt circuit for washers. Sharing a circuit with other appliances causes voltage drops and breaker trips, both of which trigger PF errors.
