- Samsung Washer 4E2
What Error Code 4E2 Means
Your Samsung washer displays 4E2 when it detects that the incoming water temperature does not match the expected temperature for the selected cycle. Specifically, the washer asked for cold water but received hot, or vice versa. This happens because the hot and cold fill hoses are connected to the wrong inlet ports on the back of the machine.
Common Causes
Fill hoses connected to wrong inlet ports
The hot water hose is connected to the cold inlet and the cold water hose is connected to the hot inlet on the back of the washer. This sends the wrong temperature water during every cycle stage.
Fill hoses connected to wrong wall valves
The hoses are on the correct washer ports but attached to the wrong shut-off valves on the wall. The hot supply line feeds the cold hose and the cold supply feeds the hot hose.
Faulty water temperature sensor (thermistor)
In rare cases, a malfunctioning thermistor sends incorrect temperature readings to the control board, making the washer think the water temperature is wrong even when the hoses are correct.
How to Fix It
- 1
Identify the washer inlet ports
Look at the back of your Samsung washer. The water inlet ports are labeled H (hot) and C (cold), usually color-coded red and blue. On some models, the labels are stamped into the metal bracket near each port.
Unplug the washer and turn off both water supply valves before disconnecting any hoses.
- 2
Check current hose connections
Trace each fill hose from the washer to the wall. Note which wall valve connects to which washer port. The hot wall valve (usually the left one) should connect to the H port on the washer. The cold wall valve (usually the right one) should connect to the C port.
- 3
Swap the hoses if reversed
Turn off both wall valves. Place a towel under the connections to catch residual water. Use adjustable pliers to disconnect both hoses from the washer inlet ports. Swap them so the hot supply hose goes to the H port and the cold supply hose goes to the C port. Hand-tighten each connection, then snug with pliers a quarter turn. Do not overtighten.
- 4
Verify wall valve connections
If the hoses are on the correct washer ports, check the wall end. Run water from each hose into a bucket individually. Open the hot valve only and feel the water temperature after 30 seconds. It should be hot. If the hot valve delivers cold water, swap the hoses at the wall valve connections.
- 5
Clear the error and test
After correcting the hose connections, turn on both supply valves. Plug in the washer. Press Power, then select a Normal cycle with warm water. Start the cycle and let it fill. The 4E2 code should not reappear.
When to Call a Professional
This is usually a DIY fix that takes under 10 minutes. Call a professional if the 4E2 code persists after verifying correct hose connections, as the thermistor or control board needs testing. TruePro offers a $59 diagnostic fee credited toward your repair, with a 90-day warranty on parts and labor. Book same-day service at 877-378-3111. We serve LA County, Orange County, and Ventura County. CA License #51112.
Estimated Repair Cost
| Option | Estimated Cost |
|---|---|
| DIY (parts only) | $0 - $20 |
| Professional repair | $150 - $280 |
Swapping hoses costs nothing if your existing hoses are in good condition. If you need new hoses, a pair of braided stainless steel lines runs $15-20. Professional repair applies when the thermistor is faulty ($150-280 including the $59 diagnostic credit and parts).
