    What Error Code AP Means

The AP display on your Samsung refrigerator is not an error code. AP stands for Access Point mode. The refrigerator's WiFi module has been activated and is broadcasting its own wireless signal so you can connect it to the Samsung SmartThings app. This mode is used during initial WiFi setup or when reconnecting the fridge to a new wireless network. Your refrigerator continues cooling normally while AP mode is active.

    Common Causes

WiFi setup initiated from the display panel

You or someone in your household pressed the WiFi setup button combination on the display, activating Access Point mode. This broadcasts the fridge's own WiFi network for pairing.

    SmartThings app triggered setup

The SmartThings app on your phone sent a pairing request to the refrigerator, putting it into AP mode automatically.

    Power cycle reset WiFi settings

A power outage or unplugging the refrigerator cleared the saved WiFi credentials. The fridge entered AP mode on startup because it has no network to connect to.

    How to Fix It

    1. 1

Complete WiFi setup (if you want to connect)

Open the Samsung SmartThings app on your phone. Tap the + icon to add a new device. Select Home Appliances, then Refrigerator. Follow the on-screen prompts — the app will find your fridge's AP signal, connect to it, and transfer your home WiFi credentials. The AP display disappears once the fridge connects to your home network.

    2. 2

      Exit AP mode without connecting

If you do not want WiFi connectivity, press and hold the Freezer button (or the Ice Off button on some models) for 3-5 seconds. AP mode deactivates and the display returns to normal temperature readings. The exact button varies by model — check your owner's manual.

    3. 3

      Wait for automatic timeout

AP mode automatically deactivates after approximately 20 minutes of inactivity. If you do nothing, the display will return to normal on its own.

    4. 4

Power-cycle if AP mode is stuck

If the AP display does not go away after 30 minutes and button presses do not work, unplug the refrigerator for 2 minutes. Plug it back in. The WiFi module resets and the display should return to normal.

    When to Call a Professional

AP mode is a normal function, not an error. You do not need a technician unless the display is permanently stuck on AP and cannot be cleared by any button combination or power cycle. If that happens, the WiFi module or display board has a fault. TruePro can diagnose it for $59 (credited toward repair) with same-day service in LA County, Orange County, and Ventura County. Call 877-378-3111.

DIY (parts only)$0 (normal function, no repair needed)
Professional repair$150 – $350 (if WiFi module or display board is stuck)

Exiting AP mode is free — it is a button press or automatic timeout. If the WiFi module is physically defective and needs replacement, expect $150-$350 including parts and labor.

    Samsung Refrigerator AP — FAQ

No. AP stands for Access Point. It means the refrigerator is in WiFi setup mode, broadcasting its own signal so you can pair it with the Samsung SmartThings app. Your fridge is cooling normally.

Press and hold the Freezer button for 3-5 seconds to exit AP mode. Alternatively, complete the WiFi setup using the SmartThings app, or wait 20 minutes for AP mode to time out automatically.

No. AP mode only affects the WiFi module. The compressor, fans, and all cooling functions continue operating normally while AP is displayed.

WiFi is optional. It enables remote temperature monitoring, alerts, and diagnostics through the SmartThings app. The refrigerator operates all cooling and ice-making functions without WiFi.
