Error Code 2E

Error code 2E means the freezer compartment temperature sensor has failed or lost its connection to the main control board. The freezer cannot maintain correct temperatures. Food thaws or the compressor runs nonstop trying to compensate. On newer Samsung models, this code displays as 2C.

Common Causes

Defective freezer thermistor: The freezer thermistor has an open or short circuit. This sensor mounts near the freezer evaporator or clips to the ceiling of the freezer compartment.

Frost damage to wiring: Ice buildup inside the freezer wall pinches or cracks the thermistor wire. Defrost cycle failures accelerate this damage.

Corroded wire connector: The plug where the thermistor harness meets the main wiring loom has corroded pins from moisture exposure inside the freezer cavity.

Main control board input failure: The sensor input circuit on the main PCB is damaged. This is rare but occurs after electrical surges or lightning strikes.

DIY Troubleshooting

1

Reset the refrigerator: Unplug the unit from the wall for 60 seconds, then plug it back in. Watch the display for 10 minutes. If 2E does not return, the error was a one-time communication glitch.

2

Access the freezer thermistor: Remove all food and shelves from the freezer. Unscrew the rear panel inside the freezer compartment using a Phillips-head screwdriver (typically 4-6 screws along the panel edges). The thermistor is a small probe mounted near the evaporator coils or clipped to the upper freezer wall.

3

Check the harness and connector: Follow the thermistor wire from the sensor to the connector. Look for ice damage, cracked insulation, or pinched sections. Disconnect the plug and inspect the pins. Clean corroded pins with electronics contact cleaner. Reseat the connector firmly.

4

Measure thermistor resistance: Disconnect the thermistor from the harness. Set a multimeter to the 20k-ohm scale. At room temperature (around 77 degrees F), a Samsung freezer thermistor should read approximately 5 kOhms. At freezer temperature (0 degrees F), it reads around 16 kOhms. An OL or 0-ohm reading means the sensor is dead. Replace it with Samsung part DA32-10104N or model-specific equivalent.

5

Install the new thermistor: Remove the old sensor from its clip. Plug in the replacement sensor to the harness connector. Mount it in the same location. Reassemble the rear panel, replace shelves and food. Plug the fridge in and verify the 2E code clears within 15 minutes.

Professional Repair

Call a technician if the code persists after sensor replacement, if the wiring inside the freezer wall is damaged, or if you cannot access the evaporator area safely. TruePro offers a $59 diagnostic fee that gets credited toward your repair, backed by a 90-day warranty on parts and labor.
