    What Error Code 22E Means

Error code 22E indicates the fridge compartment fan is not running or a door has been left open too long. Samsung triggers this code when the fan's feedback signal is absent or when the door switch reports an open door for an extended period, causing the fan to shut off. The fresh food section warms up while the freezer often remains cold. On newer models, the code reads 22C.

    Also shown as:
    22C

    Common Causes

Door left open or not sealing properly

The fridge door was left ajar or the door gasket is worn, torn, or dirty. The door switch tells the board the door is open, and the board shuts down the fridge fan to conserve energy.

    Failed fridge fan motor

The fan motor in the fresh food compartment (separate from the freezer fan) has burned out. This fan circulates air within the fridge section.

    Faulty door switch

The magnetic reed switch or mechanical plunger switch on the fridge door frame is stuck in the open position. The board thinks the door is open even when it is closed.

    Obstructed fan blade

Food containers, plastic wrap, or ice pushed against the fan housing block the blade from spinning.

    How to Fix It

    1. 1

      Check all doors

Close every door firmly -- both fridge doors on French-door models and the freezer drawer. Push each door until you hear the magnetic seal engage. Check that no food containers, bags, or drawers are preventing a full seal. Wait 5 minutes. If the 22E code clears, a door was the problem.

No electrical work needed for this step.

    2. 2

      Inspect the door gasket

Run your hand along the entire perimeter of the fridge door gasket. Feel for gaps, tears, or sections that are folded inward. Place a dollar bill between the gasket and the cabinet, close the door, and try to pull the bill out. If it slides out easily, the gasket is not sealing at that point. Clean dirty gaskets with warm water and mild dish soap. Replace gaskets that are torn or permanently deformed.

    3. 3

      Test the door switch

Unplug the refrigerator. Locate the door switch -- a small button or magnetic sensor on the door frame. On Samsung French-door models, it is often at the top of the door opening. Remove the switch (usually snaps out or has one screw). Test with a multimeter on continuity mode: the switch should show continuity when pressed (door closed) and open when released (door open). Replace if it does not toggle correctly.

Unplug the refrigerator before removing the door switch.

    4. 4

      Check the fridge fan motor

Remove the fridge compartment's rear cover panel or the housing where the fridge fan is mounted (location varies by model -- some are behind the upper rear panel of the fridge section, others are in the air duct assembly). Inspect the fan blade for obstructions. Spin it by hand -- it should turn freely. Test the motor windings with a multimeter on the 200-ohm range. Expect 100-300 ohms. OL means the motor is dead.

Keep the unit unplugged while accessing the fan motor.

    5. 5

Replace the fan motor or door switch

Install the replacement part (fan motor or door switch). Reassemble all panels. Close the doors and plug in the fridge. Monitor for 30 minutes to confirm the 22E code does not return and the fridge fan is running.

    When to Call a Professional

Call a technician if the code persists after checking all doors and the door switch, if the fan motor needs replacement and you cannot access it on your model, or if you need a new door gasket fitted. TruePro's $59 diagnostic fee gets credited toward the repair. All work is backed by a 90-day warranty on parts and labor under CA License #51112. Service covers LA County, Orange County, and Ventura County. Same-day appointments are often available. Call 877-378-3111.

    Samsung Refrigerator 22E β€” FAQ

Error 22E means the fridge compartment fan is not running. The most common trigger is a door left open or not sealing. If the door is fine, the fan motor or door switch has failed.

Yes. Samsung uses 22E on older models and 22C on newer models. Both codes indicate the same fridge fan or door-open fault.

The beep is the door alarm. Samsung activates it alongside the 22E code when the door has been open for more than 2-5 minutes (varies by model). Close the door completely to stop the beep.

Yes. A worn or dirty gasket that does not seal triggers the door switch to report the door as open. The board then shuts off the fridge fan and displays 22E.
