    What Error Code EE Means

The EE error code means the EEPROM chip on the main control board cannot be read or written to. EEPROM stores your washer's operating parameters, cycle data, and calibration values. The washer cannot function without this data. This is a board-level failure, and the machine will not run any cycle until the board is repaired or replaced.

    Also shown as:
    EE1

    Common Causes

    Corrupted EEPROM data

A power surge, brownout, or unstable voltage corrupts the data stored in the EEPROM chip. The washer cannot load its operating instructions.

    Failed EEPROM chip

The physical chip on the control board has reached end of life or suffered electrical damage. It no longer retains data.

    Main control board failure

The PCB traces or supporting components around the EEPROM chip have failed, preventing the processor from communicating with the memory.

    Power surge damage

A lightning strike or utility power spike sent excess voltage through the board, frying the EEPROM and sometimes other components.

    How to Fix It

    1. 1

      Perform a hard reset

Unplug the washer from the wall outlet. Wait a full 5 minutes. This allows all capacitors on the control board to fully discharge. Plug the washer back in and attempt to start a cycle. If the EEPROM data was only temporarily corrupted, the board recovers during power-up.

Unplug the washer before handling any components on or near the control board.

    2. 2

      Check for power supply issues

Plug the washer into a surge protector if it is plugged directly into the wall. Check your breaker panel for tripped breakers. Measure the outlet voltage with a multimeter β€” it should read between 110V and 125V AC. Unstable voltage corrupts EEPROM data.

    3. 3

Inspect the control board for visible damage

Unplug the washer. Remove the top panel and locate the main control board (usually housed in a plastic enclosure near the top-rear). Open the enclosure and inspect the board for burned components, blackened areas, swollen capacitors, or cracked solder joints. Visible damage confirms the board needs replacement.

    4. 4

Note your model number for parts ordering

The model number is on a sticker inside the door frame or on the back panel. You need this to order the exact replacement control board. LG control boards are model-specific.

    When to Call a Professional

Call a technician for the EE error. Control board diagnosis and replacement involves handling sensitive electronics and matching firmware versions. TruePro technicians carry diagnostic tools to confirm the board failure before ordering parts. The $59 diagnostic fee is credited toward the repair, and all board replacements come with a 90-day warranty on parts and labor. CA License #51112. Call 877-378-3111 for same-day service in LA County, Orange County, or Ventura County. New customers get 15% off labor with code NEW15.

    Estimated Repair Cost

    OptionEstimated Cost
    DIY (parts only)$100 - $250
    Professional repair$250 - $475

Main control boards for LG washers cost $100-$250 depending on the model. Professional installation adds $100-$200 for labor. TruePro credits the $59 diagnostic toward the total. Board-level repair (resoldering or chip replacement) is sometimes possible for less.

    LG Washer EE β€” FAQ

Sometimes. A board-level repair shop can replace just the EEPROM chip and reprogram it. This costs less than a full board. Ask your technician about this option.

It significantly reduces the risk. A quality surge protector with joule ratings above 1000J absorbs voltage spikes that corrupt or destroy the EEPROM chip.

EE and EE1 both point to EEPROM failure. EE1 is a more specific variant indicating a read failure from the chip. The fix is the same: replace or reprogram the EEPROM, or replace the entire control board.
