Common problems we diagnose

Not heating

May need a pro

Usually a failed magnetron, burned-out diode, or defective capacitor. We'll rule out simple issues like a faulty door switch first.

Typical cost: $100–$300

Sparking inside

Often a simple fix

Damaged waveguide cover, metal in cavity, or deteriorated interior paint. We can usually see the source on video.

Typical cost: $80–$200

Turntable not spinning

Often a simple fix

Broken turntable motor, damaged coupler, or misaligned guide. Easy to check on video.

Typical cost: $80–$200

Display not working

May need a pro

Failed control board, faulty touchpad, or blown fuse. We'll check power supply and control panel response.

Typical cost: $100–$250

Door won't close

Often a simple fix

Broken latch, worn hooks, or damaged springs. We'll inspect the latch mechanism on camera.

Typical cost: $80–$200

Why video diagnosis works for this

Many microwave issues are diagnosable by checking the waveguide cover, door switches, turntable mechanism, and control panel — all visible on camera. For safety, we never ask you to open the cabinet (high voltage components inside).

What you'll get

  • Specific diagnosis of your microwave issue
  • Parts list with part numbers and prices
  • Safety assessment
  • Fix-vs-replace recommendation (microwaves are often more cost-effective to replace)
  • Written report emailed after the call

What happens after your call

It's a simple fix

Waveguide cover replacements and turntable issues are easy DIY repairs. We'll send you the part number.

It needs a pro

Internal components like the magnetron carry dangerous voltage. We'll recommend a qualified technician.

It's not worth fixing

Microwaves are often cheaper to replace than repair. If the magnetron is gone, we'll usually recommend a new unit.

FAQ

Is it safe to diagnose a microwave over video?+

Yes. We only inspect externally accessible components. We never ask you to open the cabinet — microwave capacitors hold lethal voltage even when unplugged.

My microwave is sparking — should I stop using it?+

Yes, stop immediately. It's likely a damaged waveguide cover (cheap fix) but continued use risks fire. We'll confirm on the video call.

Are microwaves worth repairing?+

It depends on the model and issue. Built-in and over-the-range models are usually worth fixing. Countertop models under $200 are often cheaper to replace.

What if you can't diagnose it?+

We focus on the externally visible components — waveguide cover, door switches, turntable, and control panel. If we can't pinpoint the issue from those, full refund.
