Bosch Appliance Diagnosis
Bosch builds premium appliances with German engineering. When they need service, they need someone who understands them.
Bosch is the gold standard for dishwashers and a respected name in washers, dryers, and refrigerators. Their German engineering philosophy means tight tolerances, quiet operation, and reliability — but also higher repair costs when things do fail. Bosch parts cost more than domestic brands and some repairs require specialized knowledge. Simon has extensive experience with Bosch and other European appliance brands.
Common Bosch problems we diagnose
E24 error (drain issue)
Very commonDishwasher
The most common Bosch dishwasher error. Usually caused by a kinked drain hose, blocked filter, or failed drain pump. Check the filter and hose first — it's often a simple fix.
E15 error (leak/anti-flood)
CommonDishwasher
Water in the base pan triggered the anti-flood sensor. Could be a genuine leak or just a sensor getting splashed. Tilt the dishwasher back 45 degrees to drain the base pan — sometimes that's all it needs.
E18 error (drain timeout)
CommonWasher
Bosch compact washers use a different drain system than American washers. The coin trap filter needs regular cleaning — monthly in hard water areas. A clogged filter causes this error.
Not drying dishes
Very commonDishwasher
Bosch dishwashers use condensation drying (no heating element). They rely on the final hot rinse to create steam that condenses on the stainless walls. Using rinse aid is essential — without it, dishes won't dry properly. Not a malfunction, just a design difference.
Noisy compressor
OccasionalRefrigerator
Bosch inverter compressors modulate speed, which can cause unusual sounds during speed changes. Some noise is normal. If it's loud clicking or continuous buzzing, the compressor or start relay may be failing.
Bosch error codes we see most
| Code | Appliance | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| E24 | Dishwasher | Drain error — check filter, drain hose, and pump |
| E15 | Dishwasher | Anti-flood activated — water in base pan |
| E09 | Dishwasher | Heating element error — heater failed or connection loose |
| E18 | Washer | Drain timeout — clean coin trap filter |
| E04 | Washer | Flow sensor error — water not flowing properly |
Should you repair or replace your Bosch?
Bosch appliances cost $700-2,500 to replace depending on the model. This higher replacement cost means repairs are almost always worthwhile — even a $400 control board replacement makes financial sense on a $1,500 dishwasher. The exception: if you have an older Bosch with multiple failing components, the cumulative repair cost can add up. Parts availability is good but prices are 20-40% higher than Whirlpool equivalents.
The Bosch dishwasher drying 'problem'
This is the number one call we get about Bosch dishwashers — and it's usually not a problem at all. Bosch uses condensation drying, not heated drying like most American brands. You need to use rinse aid (fill the rinse aid dispenser), select a hot wash cycle, and crack the door open an inch at the end of the cycle. If you're doing all three and dishes still aren't drying, then we're looking at a vent or fan issue.
Bosch compact laundry
Bosch compact (24-inch) washers and dryers are different machines than full-size American washers. They use different pumps, different heating systems, and different control logic. Many general appliance techs aren't familiar with them. Simon has worked with Bosch compact laundry for years and knows the quirks — including the notorious coin trap filter that most owners don't know exists.

FAQ
Are Bosch dishwashers really the best?+
For noise level and cleaning performance, Bosch is hard to beat. The 300, 500, and 800 series are all excellent machines. The trade-off is higher repair costs and the condensation drying system that takes getting used to. But when they need repair, the fixes are usually straightforward.
My Bosch dishwasher shows E24 — is it serious?+
E24 is a drain error and it's usually not serious. Clean the filter at the bottom of the tub, check that the drain hose isn't kinked, and run a cycle. If the error comes back, the drain pump might need replacement ($100-200). A quick video call can confirm which it is.
Are Bosch parts expensive?+
Bosch parts cost 20-40% more than equivalent Whirlpool parts. A Bosch drain pump might be $80-120 vs $50-80 for a Whirlpool. However, since Bosch appliances cost more to replace, the repair-vs-replace math still favors repair in most cases.
Can a regular appliance tech work on Bosch?+
For basic repairs (pumps, valves, elements), yes. For Bosch-specific issues like the condensation drying system, compact laundry quirks, or European control board diagnostics, you want someone with Bosch experience. That's exactly what our video diagnosis provides.
