Maytag Dishwasher Won't Start

Maytag dishwashers are particularly susceptible to won't start issues due to their electronic control board design and door latch mechanism. Unlike other brands that use simpler electromechanical controls, Maytag units rely heavily on their electronic control boards (ERC) which can fail due to power surges or moisture infiltration through the front panel seals. The brand's signature door latch design, while robust, uses a dual-switch system that's more complex than competitors, creating additional failure points.

The most problematic aspect of Maytag dishwashers not starting stems from their thermal fuse placement near the motor and pump assembly. This location makes the fuse more susceptible to heat cycling, especially in newer Quiet Series and PowerDry models where improved insulation actually traps more heat around internal components. Additionally, Maytag's water level sensor integration with the control board means that even minor sensor drift can prevent the unit from initiating any cycle, a design characteristic that distinguishes them from brands with standalone water level switches.
