GE Dishwasher Won't Start

GE dishwashers are particularly susceptible to won't-start issues due to their unique door latch assembly design and electronic control architecture. Unlike other brands that use simpler mechanical latches, GE units employ a two-stage door latch system with both mechanical and electrical components that must engage simultaneously. The door latch switch assembly (part WD21X10261) is notorious for premature failure, especially in GE Profile and Café series models manufactured between 2015-2020. This dual-engagement system, while providing excellent safety features, creates multiple failure points that can prevent startup.

Additionally, GE's SmartDispense and WiFi-enabled models use complex control boards that are sensitive to power surges and moisture infiltration. The main control board (WD21X24901) commonly fails in these units, particularly when exposed to steam from improperly sealed door gaskets. GE's thermal fuse design, located behind the control panel rather than in the sump like other brands, makes these units more prone to nuisance trips during normal operation, especially in warmer climates or poorly ventilated installations.
