Frigidaire refrigerators are particularly susceptible to frost buildup due to their adaptive defrost control system design. Unlike brands with fixed defrost cycles, Frigidaire units use sensors to determine when defrost is needed, but these sensors (particularly the ADC board) are prone to failure after 5-7 years. The brand's side-by-side and French door models are especially vulnerable because of their complex air circulation patterns and multiple damper systems.

The most common culprit in Frigidaire frost issues is the defrost control board (ADC - Adaptive Defrost Control), which often fails to initiate proper defrost cycles. This is compounded by Frigidaire's tendency to use plastic defrost timer components that become brittle over time. Additionally, their door gasket design, while energy efficient, creates multiple seal points that are more likely to develop air leaks than simpler single-seal designs found on other brands.
